Penny hits the spot!

Hi, let me introduce myself.  My name is Penny Bates and until 1995 I had never done martial arts.  I had always wanted to but was very shy and didn't have much confidence.  Thats when I found Golden serpent and it's instructor Sensei Steve Prior. He assured me that being a beginner was no problem and that no one would laugh at me or judge me or my ability!

And that's how it began.

Within a year my confidence had sky rocketed and my shyness almost disappeared.  What was even better was that I was loving every minute of it all.

I also discovered I was quite a nifty little puncher.  Although my kicking has never been brilliant, my front and round house kicks do the trick albeit at waist height!  There are also the many locks to utilise as well, so what I lack in some areas I make up for in others.

After a few years (about 5), I obtained my first dan in Wado Ryu Karate and began helping and teaching, even starting a Ladies and Childrens' self defence class under Sensei Prior's instruction.

With my confidence growing and my shyness fading quickly, in time I progressed to second dan and continued training and helping with the younger members which I love.  It is great to experience all aspects of the martial arts and it's a pleasure to have such a wordly and knowledgable instructor as Sensei Prior.

So, if you would like to learn Wado Ryu Karate and self defence, come and see us.  We are a friendly bunch and believe anybody, regardless of gender, race, ability or disability, can enjoy martial arts.
